To friends and website visitors.
I am happy to announce that my book, The
Fur Farms of Alaska: Two Centuries of History and a Forgotten
Stampede has been released by the University
of Alaska Press.
The research for it was inspired by essays
written by my Uncle Jule Loftus, who appeared in Good
Company. The new book follows the history of
Alaska fur farming through many ups and downs from Russian
times to the end of the 20th century. It is a tale full
of political ironies, unrealistic hopes, and impressive
innovations. Alaskan farmers raised at least nine species
of furbearer, some invasive. They rode the roller coaster
of fashions, wars, depressions, land laws, conservation
efforts, and poaching.
I hope you enjoy the read.
